Ultra Modern Living
This brick Foursquare style home, originally designed as a Prairie Style residence, was redesigned by K. Rocke design with modern elements to complement the sparse ornamentation and simple horizontal details of the original exterior. The interior embraces the exterior architecture’s history, which was progressive for the period in which it was built, and reflects the graphic artistry of the homeowner who valued light and clean lines. Large windows offer natural light on the high contrast décor. The stairwell was redesigned with open rift-sawn white oak treads and a glass wall that acts as a functional sculpture linking the levels of the home.
A medley of striking materials and features animate the dynamic space. Epoxied white floors delineate the new kitchen and adjoining family room from the front areas of the house where bleached blonde oak floors flow throughout. In the dining room, an ultra-modern chandelier illuminates a space punctuated by violet-tinted mirrors placed like art above twin custom cabinets. And, in the small powder room, a solid Corian pedestal sink and riotously patterned wallpaper turns the small space from cramped to amped.

Family Room
The family room features a custom fireplace with a graphic pattern created by large panels and steel strips acting as an art wall and hiding a panel door to a laundry room.

Glamourous Entertaining
Multiple cabinet finishes—from the working area’s high-gloss white lacquer to the bar’s ebony oak with blonde ash accents—advance the interior’s high-contrast décor, as do the countertops ranging from white quartz to honed, black-hued granite. Sparkling pendants provide a shot of glamour, while a cloud-like ceiling structure conceals a range hood cleverly inset above the island’s cooktop, keeping the ceiling planes simple and uncluttered. Ideal for entertaining, a lighted built-in bar performs as a transition between the kitchen and the dining room.
